Check if a new value type REFERENCE_EXTERNAL_COMPONENT is needed #47

In order to streamline the code it may be useful to have a new value type REFERENCE_EXTERNAL_COMPONENT to flag referenced_component_id attributes. This would make some tests unnecessary.
