Ross Paxton

ICT in Ayrshire, Scotland. I mostly build tools for managing Windows machines, plus the occasional self-hosted app when I can't find one that already does the job.

Things you can look at

The one people actually use. It puts a colour tint over your screen to make reading easier. Covers all your monitors and handles them being plugged and unplugged, sits in the system tray, and can turn itself on and off at sunset and sunrise. Python, Windows.

Live Octopus Agile prices on a Waveshare ESP32-C6 AMOLED. Current rate, the next slot, all 48 half-hour slots for the day, and a rough score for whether it's a decent time to run something. Flashes PAID TO USE when the price goes negative. There's an older Raspberry Pi and e-ink build in the same repo.

Browser extensions

All of these run in your browser. None of them send anything anywhere.

Save Image As PNG/JPG for Chrome and Edge, and Firefox Save As for Firefox. Right click an image and save it as PNG or JPG rather than WebP.

Amazon Bulk Cancel for Chrome and Edge, and the Firefox version. Tick a pile of Subscribe & Save items and cancel them in one go instead of one at a time.

YouTube Shorts Auto-Next moves on to the next Short for you.

Archived. A Discord bot that pulled your Octopus usage and cost data and charted it.

Private projects

Some of the bigger things aren't public.

Aegis is a Windows endpoint console. Type in a computer name and it works out the best way in, whether that's WinRM, CIM, WMI, SMB, or SSH as a last resort, then runs a health check and offers fixes. Anything it changes gets verified afterwards and can be rolled back. Every action lands in an audit log.

AyrDesk is an IT service desk. Tickets, queues and routing, SLAs, an asset register, a knowledge base and reporting.

Track Things is a diary for two people to log walks, gigs, meals and days out, with photos, map pins and separate ratings.

LifeOS is a personal planner for tasks, habits, goals and notes.

What I use

Python and PowerShell day to day, TypeScript and JavaScript for anything web. C++ when there's an ESP32 involved. React, Next.js, Node, Express and Prisma on the web side, SQLite or Postgres underneath, Docker to run it all.

Ayrshire, Scotland. I work in ICT at South Ayrshire Council.
