Sometimes you may need to use a ray-based source .dat file for an LED. However, manufacturers such as Luxeon often provide files containing a very large number of rays - up to five million. Reducing the number of rays directly in LDE is not always possible because the file consists simply of a ray list, and the rays may not be randomly distributed across angular space. As a result, reducing the ray count can lead to uneven illumination.

This program has GUI (Qt) and can do following:

  • randomly subsample .dat ray files and create subsampled ray file as:
    • .dat binary for Zemax Opticstudio
    • .dat binary for TracePro
    • readable .txt ASCII file
  • convert binary ray file .dat to readable ASCII .txt file
