SPIKE Prime Hub detected by Bleak but not by Pybricks Web Installer or pybricksdev #2769

Description

@lucamartin8909

I am unable to install Pybricks on my LEGO SPIKE Prime Hub (45678).

The hub is visible with a BLE scanner (Bleak), but it is not detected by the Pybricks Web Installer or pybricksdev.

Environment

  • LEGO SPIKE Prime Hub (45678)
  • Windows 11
  • Python 3.14.6
  • pybricksdev 2.3.2
  • Chrome and Edge tested
  • Tested on two different Windows PCs

What works

  • LEGO Education SPIKE app connects to the hub normally.
  • Windows detects the hub over USB.
  • Bleak detects the hub.

BLE scan result:

Name:
Spike Hub 2026

Service UUID:
0000fd02-0000-1000-8000-00805f9b34fb

What does not work

Pybricks Web Installer:

  • No hub appears in the device list.

pybricksdev:

python -m pybricksdev lwp3 repl

Output:

INFO: scanning...
ERROR: timed out

Additional information

  • Bluetooth is enabled on the hub (blue blinking LED).
  • The hub is not paired in Windows Bluetooth settings.
  • Same behaviour on two different PCs.
  • scan.py using Bleak consistently detects the hub, but pybricksdev does not.

Is this a known compatibility issue with recent SPIKE firmware or could this indicate a firmware or device detection problem?
